Hockey Quantified: An Audit of the Ice.

Every puck touch, contextualized into the possession chain and scored against your organization’s hockey philosophy.

What HQ is

01

An audit tool

Every event in every game is priced by your rules, then rolled up into the numbers a front office actually uses:

  • PV/60 — value created per 60 minutes, priced entirely your way
  • Value delta — does this player generate more or less value than their cap or age-group cohort?
  • Possession impact — possessions started, involved in, and ended
  • Situational splits — clutch PV/60, power-play PV/60, any state you define
02

Decisions, not verdicts

Built for finding value in the margins and informing roster construction through objective analysis, with your organization’s philosophy as the scoring lens. HQ describes; your hockey people decide.

03

Live within a week

Deployment takes days, not months. HQ runs on the event data your organization already has, and can integrate with your existing analytics stack.

Every possession, scored

The audit at ice level: HQ groups the event feed into possessions — the unbroken chain from gaining the puck to losing it — and prices every touch by what it does to the chain, for both teams. Three real possessions from Panthers vs. Oilers, June 9, 2025:

One player, every possession

The audit rolls up. Possession Impact counts every possession a player touched — started, ended, or worked in between — with every ending graded by outcome and every figure held against the rest of the league.

HQ Possession Impact view for Connor McDavid: 21.8% of Edmonton Oilers possessions involved him in tracked games. A wheel of 1,400 possessions touched — 290 started, 272 ended, 122 started and ended, 716 touched only — with the possessions he ended split by outcome and graded against the league.
